Lessons and Boarding

LESSONS are available any day by appointment. All appointments and scheduling is done by Gwen Arrigon - CLICK HERE to e-mail Gwen about lesson times , or call her at 513/839-5619.

We teach hunter and jumper lessons at all levels - beginner to advanced - seven days per week. Most students have a regularly scheduled weekly lesson.

We provide an appropriate lesson horse, or you can bring your own horse. There is no price difference if you bring a horse.

BARN ETIQUETTE

Everyone’s barns have rules. It’s all about having good, safe, sound horsemanship. No matter how small the detail it all demonstrates your attention to detail and desire to do things correctly and carefully. Here’s what I expect…

Arrive in enough time to leisurely groom thoroughly and tack up correctly before your lesson time begins. I am known to send people back to the barn to groom more thoroughly if you don’t do a good job. No mud, no shavings in manes or tails, etc. Do something with the horse’s mane and tail – take time to groom!
Ride in jeans and half chaps, or breeches and tall boots. I don't like full chaps unless it is cold. No full seat breeches. Close fitting jcaket - nothing baggy or floppy. Have gloves.
Hair needs to be up under helmet, prefereably in a hair net.
Tack up in stall or in crossties – I don’t care which place you choose, but if you bring your horse out of the stall you must have a lead rope on the halter. Don’t block the wash stall!
Don’t borrow tack! All horses have their own stuff that fits them and is meant for them. Believe it or not, some people just grab whatever is nearby because they are too lazy to find the correct stuff. Don’t do that!
Take time to cool horses out correctly. In hot months, that means you’ll hose off in the wash stall, take the horse out to eat grass and dry. In the colder weather, you will throughly sponge sweat off under tack, then a thorough brushing.
Everyone should pull manes a little bit every time you groom the horse.
Clean bridle, martingale – cleaning stuff is on the hook in the main tack room.
Pick up after yourself… if your horse poops, pick it up. If you make a mess picking feet, sweep it up. Anything like that goes in the manure spreader outside.
Put stuff away correctly. Pay attention to the way everything else is put away. My pet peeve…
- Fleece pad, then neoprene pad atop that, then baby pad on top – baby pad folded once and hung with the horse’s name showing, then the whole thing clamped with the horse shoe to keep it from blowing off. EXACTLY like that.
- Halter hung sideways through the lower rings (like everyone else’s)
- Bridle cleaned and rehung correctly and in the right spot.
- Lead rope put away separately
- Pick up any trash, bottles, you left by the stall, etc.

STORING STUFF AT BECKETT RUN

Boarders will have a saddle rack and shelve available in the boarder tack room, and a space for a reasonably sized trunk in the viewing room.

Lesson students may bring a saddle with you if you like, but there is not room to keep your tack at the barn.

Equestrian Teams

I am making space in a tack room at BRF for BRET and Xavier riders to store their stuff. Soon... You may claim a saddle rack, and keep a small bag or box, space permitting. I am suggesting one of those plastic boxes like you get at WalMart. As soon as school starts, the rush will be on to claim saddle racks and space.

Saddle racks can be claimed in the new “Xavier / Beckett Run Equestrian Team Tack Room”. Only hunt saddles will be allowed – no dressage or eventing saddles. There is no sense in riding in something that won’t help you prepare for the shows.
It must be in good workable order – if it is not safe or presentable I will not let you use it.
YOU MUST HAVE A NAME PLATE on your saddle before leaving it in the tack room. Only saddles, pads, and saddle covers can be left on the saddle racks. Everything else goes in your box. Have your name on EVERYTHING you use. If we find something without a name, we will assume it belongs in the lesson tack room.
You may provide your own pad if you bring a saddle, or borrow from the barn, but you MUST use the horse’s baby pad with his name, and his neoprene wither pad. DON’T bring bridles or girths, or grooming supplies – you can’t use them because that is a good way to spread skin diseases. Each horse has his own brushes.
Boxes must be small – you’ll have limited space, and only as long as space is available!

RATES:

Board: $475/month in the main

barn; $395 in the lower barn

Board includes two feedings per day, daily stall cleaning, daily turnout whenever weather permits, use of arenas (working around lessons), space in boarder tack room.

special feeds may be substituted at your cost
supplements will be fed at owners cost - must be in pre-measured packets.
blanketing, turnout boots, etc. - services available at additional cost.

Lessons:

$40 for 1-hour groups

$49 for private half-hours

$49 for semi-private hours

(group of 2 riders)

$75 for private hours

OTHER LESSON POLICIES

Your second lesson each week is discounted $5 off the above price.
You must cancel a lesson at least 24 hours ahead of time – call Gwen’s cell phone at 513/839-5619 or garrigon@hotmail.com- or you will be charged for the lesson. Make up times will be allowed for late cancellations only if taken later in the same week or as an additional lesson the following week.
Privates lessons offered only when time available.
